Your Gaming Space

Every Gamer has a favorite posture or set up for gaming.  most are as unique as their handle or gamertag.  Mine, is right in front of my computer, in a comfy computer chair with the soft hum of Wing Zero to my right, the lights dimmed, maybe some music playing the background, my monitors elevated to right about my head height sitting down (that one's tricky, I'm a tall guy) and my peripherals in easy reach along with a hot cup of tea  and some twizzlers. (great Gaming food by the way)
this posture is a bit different if I'm about to read a book or graphic novel.  for that I like to have my legs elevated to about my midsection so I generally choose a couch or my bed.  there can only be a single light in the room over my right shoulder, and I have to be propped up enough to not crane my neck.
the point I'm trying to make is that every gamer has an atmosphere that helps them blot out the distractions of the world so they are open to a new experience.
for those of you who have never played a game, or have never read a novel or comic book seriously, evaluate your atmosphere.  you might be the only thing holding yourself back. :)
until next time kids.. stay tuned.

  1. I'm not a pc gamer so my set up is different. I always start gaming on my couch about nine feet away from my TV, but inevitably end perched on top of a bar stool as close as three or four feet away. Also I have to be sitting on the left side of the screen. If I sit center of right my entire game is shot.

  2. I used to do the same thing, especially with consoles. then I bought the cable that allows you connect the xbox to a computer monitor. much nicer on my eyes. I might also suggest reading glasses. I was perscribed them but never really used them until I did a few marathons of Halo, one with, one without. the difference was amazing.

Anyone else wanna describe your Gaming/Reading space?

  3. I'm a PC gamer! I've got dual monitors set up on my desk and I game with a keyboard and mouse [none of this controller crap :D]. I typically also have my laptop set up next to my monitors so that I can run mumble/vent/facebook without lagging my desktop any more than it already does. I normally game with tea and swedish fish :)

As for reading, I typically read while sitting in a butterfly chair [not the animal, but the chair style...google it.] with my feet propped up on my bookshelf, wrapped in a blanket. I also use reading glasses and am rarely without a cup of tea :)

  4. I find this funny because I never thought about the gamer position. I gamed for the first time last night. I was able to get everything set up great. I did play on the floor thought at like 11:30 at night. I think next time I'll go for the comfy chair idea. To get the full gamer experience should I have gamed while eating a snack? I feel like it could get messy, but at the same time could bring the gaming experience to the next level. I'll let you know if I am having trouble with anything. Thank you so much for the Final Fantasy VII and WOW games.

  5. Your very welcome Heather. Most gamers taylor they're space to what makes them most comfortable, as Nicole pointed out she has her laptop handy to vent and blog as she goes about it. food is really up to you . most gamers have a favorite food as Marathon sessions of your favorite title can go for up to 4+ hours. see what works for you, if you do a lot of reading, what do you keep handy when you're knee deep in story? Happy Gaming!

  6. Well, when I'm reading I tend to have some sort of chocolate or coffee. I like eating something sweet when I read because it relaxes me. The coffee is only useful because I have to stay up late many nights to finish reading. I realized I liked playing WoW when I forgot when time it was. This similar problem happens when I'm reading a good book. I like trying new things and that is why I was so excited to sign up for this class. Feel uncomfortable is a good things when you discover something new about yourself! :)

  7. I finally get what you mean when you say that everyone has a space and that everyone's is different. I find that when I am playing WoW or Final Fantasy that I am usually by a fan (not sure why) and that I need to have to be chewing gum. I think things get so intense or that I get so newvous that my teeth take it out on the gum. I also have my phone near me but then again..my phone doesn't usually ever leave me.
